Ningthoujam Vidyapati has become the first woman from Manipur to have become a mountaineer. To her credit she is the one of those privileged and adventurous ones from Northeast to have climbed Mt. Everest. A member of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), she joined Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association to pursue her dream of conquering Mt. Everest. She also did a host of courses like like rock climbing, winter training, Search and Rescue, Alpine and Method of Instruction course.
With climbing being one of the fastest growing recreational sports in India, millions of amateur trekking and climbing enthusiasts are exploring the adrenaline rush of this mentally and physically stimulating sport. Thousand's of certified Mountaineers are graduating from the 4 premium National Mountaineering Institutes in India annually and are exploring the largest and youngest mountain range in the world, standing sentinel across the North of our country.
